Bacton Fair Saturday 5th August 2017
Description
The weather forecast was pretty accurate and yes, we did have some rain but we also had some glorious sunshine for the 2017 Baton Fair.

We had this:

Later in the afternoon we also had this:

But testimony to what a fabulous show it is - come rain or shine, people came along and enjoyed all there was to see, hear, eat and drink and get involved !

2017-08-05_11.46.17low_res.jpeg

We got word of the shocking story of how the coaster racket was uncovered where Annie Coopers' telephone number was being written on all the coasters.

Thankfully the culprits were reprimanded !

2017-08-05_11.48.07low_res.jpeg

We had fabulous classic cars

2017-08-05_11.49.58low_res.jpeg

The chair swing roundabout again proved popular with everyone

2017-08-05_11.52.03-2low_res.jpeg

2017-08-05_11.50.20low_res.jpeg

20 + years in restoration for many of these cars - some like the one above, literally built from scratch

2017-08-05_11.50.49low_res.jpeg

This one was for sale !

2017-08-05_12.07.12low_res.jpeg

John Webb, our hugely popular and tireless master of ceremonies, kept announcing that the 'mare' was at Bacton Fair and got me wrong footed everytime!

2017-08-05_12.08.49low_res.jpeg

It was a very proud Suffolk Punch and her foal - just 3 months old

2017-08-05_12.34.16low_res.jpeg

All the fun of the fair was available.

2017-08-05_12.36.29low_res.jpeg

2017-08-05_12.43.01low_res.jpeg

And those wonderful, wonderful vegetable creations.

2017-08-05_12.43.27low_res.jpeg

My favourite and I thought an inevitable mutant if my own experiences in the vegetable garden are anything to go by, vegetables made to look like a slug !

2017-08-05_12.43.39low_res.jpeg

2017-08-05_12.44.00low_res.jpeg

The 'grape' flipper !

2017-08-05_12.47.03low_res.jpeg

Then those marvellous flower decorations and displays

2017-08-05_12.47.34low_res.jpeg

2017-08-05_12.48.07low_res.jpeg

There were certainly no slugs allowed around these impressive displays

2017-08-05_12.49.31low_res.jpeg

2017-08-05_12.49.44low_res.jpeg

You CAN have your cake and eat it at the Bacton Fair - and in such great style !

2017-08-05_13.01.00low_res.jpeg

2017-08-05_14.31.07low_res.jpeg

The stalwart Stowmarket Boys Brigade Band were simply unstoppable - come rain or shine

At this point - you could tell they were definitely heading for that rain bit !

2017-08-05_14.37.24low_res.jpeg

But even with those skies and that rain, there was still a queue at the gate to come in

2017-08-05_13.03.25low_res.jpeg

2017-08-05_13.12.03low_res.jpeg

Bacton Fairs very own Top Gear presenters !

2017-08-05_13.12.51low_res.jpeg

2017-08-05_13.27.59low_res.jpeg

Things were hotting up with the weather and the Bacton Formula 1 wheelie bin races - we could have done with Lion Peter Smiths' help to calm down some of the very evident tensions !

2017-08-05_15.45.45low_res.jpeg

2017-08-05_13.29.29low_res.jpeg

Meanwhile at the OK coral ..........

2017-08-05_13.36.19low_res.jpeg

Not forgetting our major sponsor and organiser of the Bacton Fair - Philip Jeffries

2017-08-05_14.14.52low_res.jpeg

2017-08-05_14.15.02low_res.jpeg

How convenient that the best place to shelter from the rain also sold beer - our very own The Lions Den very ably 'manned' by Lions Andrew Ward, Andy Manning, Andy Friend and Julie French

2017-08-05_14.24.16low_res.jpeg

2017-08-05_14.38.58low_res.jpeg

Working sheep dog display which was very entertaining with turkeys, geese and ducks all 'coming bye'

2017-08-05_14.40.02low_res.jpeg

2017-08-05_14.41.02low_res.jpeg

Rain - what rain !

2017-08-05_15.01.10low_res.jpeg

2017-08-05_15.27.04low_res.jpeg

Blue sky and the races re-commenced

2017-08-05_15.18.15low_res.jpeg

2017-08-05_15.28.49low_res.jpeg

Event organiser Philip Jeffries breaks the news from Private Ryan that unfortunately bad weather meant the parachute drop had to be cancelled

2017-08-05_15.34.41low_res.jpeg

So back to the sack races - this time the ladies over 18's

2017-08-05_15.38.06low_res.jpeg

Some made it look so easy

2017-08-05_15.38.08low_res.jpeg

Others not so easy

2017-08-05_15.38.12low_res.jpeg

And some went completely .................!

2017-08-05_15.40.42low_res.jpeg

2017-08-05_16.03.58low_res.jpeg

The moment it was revealed that Mrs Annie Cooper had won all the money from the coaster competition

BUT Annie extremely generously gave it all back to the Bacton Fair

Once again, a hugely sucessful Bacton Fair despite the rain and of course second to none organisation of car parking, sales of coasters and all the arrangements for running the Lions Den bar by Lions
