Ernie Pearce Memorial Charity Boxing Dinner - Friday 17th March 2017

Master of Ceremonies, John Webb welcomed everyone on behalf of the Lions club of Stowmarket and district to this charity boxing dinner in memory of Lion Ernie Pearce, who sadly passed away last year. This event and future events will be known as the Ernie Pearce Memorial Charity Boxing Dinner. As many of you know, Ernie worked tirelessly over many years in our community raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for charitable causes. The annual boxing dinner held a special place in Ernie's heart and he loved organising the event for us all to enjoy.

John Webb then invited all present in the tradition of boxing circles to listen to the ringing of the bell 10 times and then give a one-minute round of applause for Lion Ernie Pearce - CLICK HERE

On behalf of Stowmarket Lion President Kevin Standrin, John Webb went on to say that Lions Stuart Jeffries and Andrew Ward had taken on the monumental challenge and organised this years Ernie Pearce Memorial Charity Boxing Dinner and we are hugely grateful to them and for the magnificent job that they have done.

Eastgate Amateur Boxing Club were thanked for providing tonight's contestants; thanks also went to the boxing officials the medical team and referees without whom we could not stage this event; to Debenham Leisure Centre once again for the use of their premises, also to Hatfields Catering and their wonderful staff for the meal and drinks we were all about to enjoy. Thanks also go to our sponsors, both companies and individuals who have kindly helped us once again to ensure the success of the evening. Our purpose this evening is to raise much-needed funds for local causes and the proceeds from tonight's event will be in aid of Lions local charities. Finally, "thanks to everyone attending this very special evening and I hope you'll continue to show your generosity by bidding freely in tonight's auction and taking part in the forecast and raffle. Thank you and enjoy your evening"

There was a pause for the evening's auction after Bout number 7

Auction Items included:
Signed Ipswich Town Football Shirt

Signed Norwich Town Football Shirt
Signed photograph of Usain Bolt
Signed Ipswich Town Football
Signed Harlequin Rugby Shirt
Whole Gammon
