Girls Night Out 2017 – 2,370 girls start their sponsored walk from Angel Hill, Bury St Edmunds @ 20.00. Girls donned their pyjamas and flashing bunny ears and walked 6 or 11.2 miles around Bury St Edmunds.

It’s become a massive event for the whole community and so each year needs more and more resources to run the event.

Registration of walkers 2,370 of them !

It also brings the whole community together and no-one is spared not wearing those flashing bunny ears.

That includes the police

The Police Cadets

The fire services

And the now essential ‘water boys’ who hand out water to the girls at various points on the 6 mile and 11.2 mile routes

Even the local armed forces help out ensuring the girls are safe

St Nicholas Hospice Care is a local charity providing help, advice and support to people in West Suffolk and Thetford in the final chapters of their life, who are living with long-term and life-threatening illnesses.

Their services are not just for patients, but for their family and friends too. They include everything from specialist medical care to bereavement support and practical help. The Hospice costs £11,000 a day to run and so fund raising is absolutely vital.
Girls Night Out has grown massively over recent years and this year over 2,370 ‘girls’ signed up. And with that many ‘girls’ then the target of raising £250,000 becomes possible

Stowmarket Lion Peter Smith who is London (Olympic) Stadium Safety Officer was again Chief Marshal and as the event grows so does the need for marshalls and stewards with over 300 being required this year. Lions from both Lions Club of Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket & District helped as Marshalls.

Team Members include Haydn and Jordan Gross, Connie Gibbs, Mandy Smart, Julie Clarke, Sharon and Izzy Ungless, Lorraine Cockerton, Rose Anne Payne, Mary Riley, Sheila Barnard, Fiona Mann, Michelle Freeman, Alexa Burlow, Nicola, Clare

The team is called “Zena 10” as it has now been over 10 years since Zena Butcher passed away from a brain tumour. Her two sisters Mandy and Tracey and daughter Connie featured on the posters for this years event.  Zena was a keen netball player and has a Netball league named after her and “Zena 10” like so many others, come along to give their support to the fabulous work that St Nicholas Hospice Care do in our community and to remember Zena.

Walk with us at Girls Night Out, the sponsored walk for women.

This years walk will take place on 9 September 2017. Registration for the moonlight walk is open now with an early sign-up offer of £10 per person valid until 31 May (£15 registration 1 June onwards).

Join thousands of others as they don their pyjamas, a pair of glowing bunny ears and a huge smile and walk 11.2 or six miles through Bury St Edmunds on 9 September 2017.

Girls Night Out is our biggest fundraiser of the year. In 2016 more than 2400 women signed up!

St Nicholas Hospice Care has to raise £11,000 a day to continue to offer emotional and physical support to more than 400 families dealing with long-term and life-threatening illnesses in West Suffolk and Thetford.

Our services are entirely free to all, but your support is vital for us to be able to carry on providing this care to the people and families in the local area.
